Privacy policy

Your information, plainly

Effective October 7, 2026

This website is run by McGinnis for the People, the campaign committee of Brian McGinnis, candidate for North Carolina's 2nd Congressional District. This policy explains what we collect through this site, why, and the choices you have.

What we collect

Information you give us. We only collect personal information when you submit a form:

  • Campaign updates signup: first name, last name, and email address.
  • Volunteer signup: first name, last name, email address, how you would like to help, and, if you choose to provide it, your mobile phone number.
  • Whether you agreed to receive emails and, separately, text messages from the campaign.

Technical information. Like most websites, the service that hosts this site keeps standard server logs, which can include your IP address, browser type, and the pages you request. We do not use advertising trackers or analytics cookies on this site.

How we use it

  • To send campaign news and updates you signed up for.
  • To organize volunteers and contact you about volunteer opportunities.
  • To respond when you contact us.
  • To keep the site secure and working.

Text messages

We only text you if you provide a mobile number and check the box agreeing to receive texts. Texts are about volunteering and may include group messages. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to opt out, or HELP for help. We do not sell or share mobile numbers or text message consent with third parties for their own marketing.

Email

Every campaign email includes a way to unsubscribe. You can also ask us to remove you at any time using the contact details below.

Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only:

  • with service providers that run this site for us, including our website host and the database provider that stores form submissions, who may use it only to provide those services;
  • with campaign staff and volunteers who need it to do the work described above; and
  • when the law requires it.

Donations

Donations are processed by Donorbox on its own website, not on this one. When you donate, Donorbox and its payment processors collect your payment and contact details under their own privacy policies. We never see or store your full card number. Federal law requires campaigns to collect and report the name, mailing address, occupation, and employer of individuals whose contributions exceed $200 in an election cycle, and those reports are public.

Videos and outside links

Some pages embed videos from Instagram. When those load, Instagram (Meta) may collect information about your visit and set its own cookies under its own policies. This site also links to other websites, such as the North Carolina State Board of Elections. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of sites we do not run.

How long we keep it

We keep the information you give us for as long as it is needed for the purposes above, generally the duration of the campaign and any period required by law, or until you ask us to delete it.

Your choices

You can ask to see, correct, or delete the information we hold about you, or to stop hearing from us, by emailing info@brianmcginnis.org.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the information you share, including encrypted connections and restricted access to form submissions. No website can guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the effective date above.
